Genesis Health + Fitness partners with febfast in 2021

Date: Jan 28, 2021    By: Genesis Fitness

febfast is gearing up to be massive this year, with Victorians using the annual charity event to make a fresh start in 2021. Whether giving up sugar, alcohol or anything in-between, it’s a great opportunity to set some new goals while also raising money for a good cause.

Genesis Health + Fitness, official partners for febfast 2021, have registered their own team while also helping participants to use February to begin on a better path, whatever that may be.

“Take small steps, set achievable goals and get yourself moving – the change you can make in just 28 days will surprise you. Let’s make febfast a life-changer this year,” said National Fitness Manager at Genesis Health + Fitness, Sam Merza.

Tips from National Fitness Manager at Genesis Health + Fitness, Sam Merza.

  1. Drink more water. So simple but so important as it assists you physically and mentally. Start with a glass of water first thing in the morning. Drink two or three glasses between meals and carry a water bottle with you throughout the day so you have easy access.
  2. Breath in some fresh air. Focusing on your breath in a conscious and purposeful way has the power to change your physical, mental and emotional state. A few minutes of deep-breathing a day makes a big difference.
  3. Get moving. A walk, a stretch or even a gentle swim are perfect activities, especially if you weren’t doing much physical activity prior to febfast.
  4. Phone a friend. If the challenge is a little overwhelming, it’s time to call in back-up. Phone a friend or family member for support and encourage them to join in with you.
  5. Write down three goals. Whatever it is you want to achieve, write down the top three and stick it on your fridge.

Stats

  • A febfast survey of 500 Victorians conducted by YSAS revealed half gained weight in 2020 and more than one in three (39%) drank more alcohol than usual during a very trying year.
  • Around 60% of survey takers said they’d gained weight and the vast majority desired to cut down on sugary foods in 2021.
  • Women were far more likely to have turned to unhealthy eating and men were more likely to binge drink.

febfast

febfast is where individuals pause for a cause by giving up alcohol, sugar or another vice of their choice, to support disadvantaged youth in Australia (through YSAS).
